Easy to Please

Today, although altogether unproductive in the lab, was a very good day.

1. Waiting at La Poste this morning was a special care package from Germany. The glasses I had ordered when I was there a few weeks ago (yay – new glasses for the first time in 10 years – yes, I need to get out more) cushioned on two bags of gummy bears. Sorry the bears didn’t make it into the photo, they were vacuumed by the rest of the lab.

2. I learned that a close colleague is pregnant. Yay!!! I love babies (as if you all didn’t know that). I am officially putting aside Christmas knitting (yes, I am that behind – or ahead – depending on how you see it) to start again on the blanket bandwagon.

3. I discovered that I do indeed qualify for French social security (i.e. health care). Let’s not get into this discussion because I might fly off the handle; all I need to say is that I breathed a great sigh of relief. Now all I need to do is get my dossier together (which, if you know anything about French bureaucracy, is hardly a little thing).

4. I could no longer avoid the bouncing Earth on the bottom of my Dock and I finally updated my iTunes software (along with 10 gabillion other things) and received all kinds of snazzy new features for my iPod, which I will need some help figuring out. At the same time I decided to discover what these “App” things were all about and I went a little crazy with the metro entertainment (see above re: getting out more).

5. After having a brief “tomorrow is another day ” wallowing moment when I realized I could cross only two things off of my extensive to-do list for today, I arrived home wanting something very cold to drink. All that was in my refrigerator to qualify was this funny Turkish beer from Bastille Day. It was a cool, refreshing end to a pleasing day and I decided to leave more complex science-y conversation for tomorrow.

Amen! So glad that I snagged one last Wednesday…

  3. LOVE EFES!

    – what? that it practically had a monopoly in turkish night life in my golden teens is absolutely irrevelant here.

It is totally relevant here 😉 Especially since it validates (and justifies) the continuation of beer-drinking summertime tradition! Hope all is well with you!!
